Hopi Black Dye Sunflower Seeds

$ 14.25

Rooted in centuries of Hopi agricultural tradition, these sunflowers deliver dual purpose: striking dark pigment for natural dyeing and abundant, nutrient-rich seeds. Cultivated and refined by generations of Hopi farmers, this heritage variety (called Tceqa' Qu' Si) has long been essential to traditional basketry and textile work.

This heritage variety responds dynamically to your dye process, shifting hues based on water chemistry, temperature, mordant, and fiber choices. The natural pigment's sensitivity to pH and heat means each batch creates unique colors. Possible colors vary from greens, browns, greys, or black.

Grown at our Chicago headquarters farm and rooftop network without synthetic chemicals, herbicides, or pesticides, these Dyer's Coreopsis flowers are harvested by hand at peak maturity. Each bloom is carefully dried in our dedicated curing room away from direct light to preserve potency. Use within one year for optimal dyeing results.
