Meadow for All Eau de Parfum

Sometimes, in the summer, they let their love be lazy. That’s not to say it shrinks—on the contrary, its sun-loosened perimeter is more expansive than ever on days when tomato leaves bake against skies so blue they feel opaque. Like a joke, they clench stalks of hay between their teeth, lying stretched out on the rooftop, lilacs bursting out from under every shingle. They poke at the sheer density of the season’s heat with blades of lemongrass like tiny swords, not bothering to care that the rest of the world exists, just for this moment, suspended above the Earth in a heady cloud of amber and bergamot. Autumn will come soon enough, and what’s between them, condensed like this, will rain back down on firmer soil. For now, they revel in the warmth of a summer’s worth of love.
