Join Chicago-based Danielle Chutinthranond of Monsoon Pottery and Dylan Heath of Banana Phone Treats for a one of a kind fermentation workshop.  

In this 3 hour workshop, learn the context and background of fermentation and the basics of lacto-fermentation from Chef Dylan Heath. As well as gaining hands-on experience in preparing and blending a recipe and packing a fermentation crock. Signs and signals of progress and what to look for if things aren't going right. 

For this workshop, Danielle has designed a unique, stoneware fermentation crock and attendees will receive the first production run. Crocks will differ slightly than promotional images, follow @monsoonpottery on Instagram for more information. During the workshop Danielle will discuss the inspiration and design process for the 1 quart stoneware fermentation crock.

This is an introductory class for beginners, but all skill levels are welcome.

Event will be held in the Third Season Design Studio at 1516 W Carroll Ave. Entrance is on the Justine side of the building under our three greenhouses.

Bios
Danielle earned a BA in Physics with a specialization in Astrophysics from the University of Chicago and worked in the tech industry for 8-10 years following her undergraduate studies. Danielle found clay in 2015 through a class at Lillstreet Art Center in Chicago. In 2016 she started making and selling work under the name Monsoon Pottery and has since been creating functional work for food enthusiasts, chefs, and tea lovers.

One of Danielle’s major points of inspiration is Asian Art History. Studying handmade objects from the past ignites Danielle’s creativity. Her practice is centered around taking traditional Asian forms and finishes and updating them so they fit seamlessly into homes today.

You can find her work at local establishments: Giant, Loaf Lounge, Omakase Room, Third Season by The Roof Crop, and Feld (opening in West Town Spring/Summer 2024). Danielle’s work has been featured in cookbooks: Plant Based India by Sheil Shukla, Grist by Abra Berens, and Pulp by Abra Berens. Her plates at Giant were featured in S2E3 of FX’s The Bear. Dylan Heath is a chef and half of the popup Banana Phone. He has worked in the restaurant industry for the past 15 years, including several of Chicago’s most favorite indy restaurants such as Cafe Marie-Jeanne, Cellar Door Provisions, and Superkhana. He also helped open Pink Salt, a Thai restaurant turned popup turned sauce company.

Currently Dylan is focused on French bistro cuisine, using fermentation and preserving methods to minimize food waste and deepen relationships with small and family run farms. USPS Orders are processed within 2-3 business days and shipped via USPS. We do not currently ship fresh flowers or perishable items.
